The Whitlams are bringing their ‘Early Years ‘93-’97 - feat. Scott Owen (The Living End) Tour’ to The Astor Theatre on Friday, 27th of October and the Freo.Social on Saturday, 28th of October 2023.
Scott Owen from The Living End joins The Whitlams on tour, adding his energetic presence to recreate the lively atmosphere of the band's first three albums. With his remarkable skills on the double bass, there's no one better suited to deliver the classic tunes from '93 to '97, considering he has been the driving force behind The Living End's famous rhythm section since its inception.
The resonant and distinctive sound of the double bass played a crucial role in propelling The Whitlams onto the airwaves during the mid-'90s. Their journey started with their debut hit "Gough" in 1993, followed by the crossover hit "I Make Hamburgers" in 1995, and the frenetic track "You Sound Like Louis Burdett" in 1997. For the first hour of the show, Scott Owen will join the band to perform the best tracks from "Introducing The Whitlams," "Undeniably The Whitlams," and "Eternal Nightcap."
The Whitlams underwent a transition to electric bass with their number one hit, "No Aphrodisiac." In this song, the reflective first half was recorded using the double bass, while the second half featured the electric bass. At this pivotal moment, The Whitlams' bassist, Ian Peres, will switch from the Hammond organ to the bass, leading the show with a string of more recent hits, including the ever-relevant "Blow Up the Pokies."
The Whitlams consist of Tim Freedman on piano and vocals, Jak Housden on guitar, Terepai Richmond on drums, and the newest member, Ian Peres, on the Hammond organ and electric bass.
